Please write to the Newspapers and the City Council as soon as possible expressing your disgust at this proposed closure by the council. As usual, they are claiming that the closure is necessary as part of the cuts that are being made to public services. This is a lie. The cuts are not necessary or inevitable.
Newstead Abbey is not the Council's building to close! It is public property, therefore they have no more right to deny us access than they could come round and change the locks on my flat!!
