Nope. The Forum says that there' s only one registered user on-line. That's me.

Echoes in here... Like the Abbey (in Canto XIII of Don Juan)

"... where the silenced quire
Lie with their hallelujahs quenched like fire."

No! Wait! I'm in the antipodes. Probably most of the members are in bed, asleep, while I sit here tapping. I'll leave a little note:

Dear Members,

I'm Peter, the publisher of MadBadDangerous.com. The website exists for two reasons. First, Byron (or at least, Don Juan) is a sort of hobby of mine. Second, I'm preparing to publish an e-book of Byron's great epic and the website is supposed to help me attract attention to the e-book.

To be honest, it hasn't done that so far. But because Byron is a hobby, I'm having fun anyway. For example, did you know the story behind Byron's most prominent product-placement in Don Juan (Macassar's "Incomparable Oil")? Did you know that the Rowlands who imported the gooey stuff were (awful) verse-advertisers? Did you know that they "discovered" some missing verses of Don Juan further promoting their dodgy remedies? And published them in the first editions of the Pickwick Papers?

Take a look at this on MadBadDangerous.com. And be sure to consult Rowland Jnr.'s "Practical and Philosophical Treatise on the Human Hair."

Truly, you couldn't make this stuff up (well... not unless you're Terry Prachett).

When you're done with that, maybe you'd kindly head over to the Byron Matters section of the Forum and help me with some feedback on my project to re-publish Don Juan as an illustrated audio-ebook.

Best wishes,

Peter

Welcome Peter. The forum can be spookily quiet...
The only people I have had much contact with are, MaxDeWinter, Debora, JetSetJason, Ashley J Barnard, Lord (Ian) Strathcarron and the incomparable Andreas!
I do not know where everyone else is!

I have written a novel about Byron and the Nottingham Luddites - and I'm now touting it round literary agents in the hope of being published...
MaxDe Winter is writing the rest of Don Juan! He has written several more cantos - I've read most of this and it's brilliant - taking on Byron's style, wit and conversationalism in one fell swoop.
Do keep in touch.

I will look at your website and links with great interest!

Christabel

Hi Christy,

How nice to hear from you! Thank you so much for registering at MadBadDangerous.com.

A copy of the sample e-book of Canto One is on its way to you. I hope you have an Apple iPhone or iPad; other formats will appear later in the year after the iBooks version is published (Nook, Kobo readers).

What a pity that this Forum is so quiet with such talented people! I'd like to write post at MadBadDangerous.com on your "Byron as Rockstar" performance series from 2010. Is the essay you read available for linking anywhere?

I'd also like to know more about your manuscript on the Nottingham rioters and about Max's extension of "Donny Johnny" (I can't see any other references to it here.. he seems to have posted only twice to the Forum).

Would you be willing to write a "guest post" on MadBadDangerous.com about your book and Byron's politics? You'll see that I've posted once (briefly) on the (English) political environment of Don Juan but there's a lot, lot more to this that has more than merely historical dimensions.

Best wishes,

Peter

Hi Peter
I would love to. If you send me your email address in a personal message on here, I will email a post to you about my novel and Byron's politics - linking it to the present day.

It's frustrating that this forum is so quiet. I keep in touch with a few people on facebook - you can always message me on there aswell
just search Christy Fearn - I'm the one in Nottingham, England.

I think the problem is that there are only a few of us who are really passionate about Byron and accept him, flaws and all, without sweeping the more controversial subjects (both political and sexual) under the carpet - or in the closet!

All the best
Christy
