I write to introduce myself in verse,
Which seems the only proper thing to do;
A classicist, my interests are diverse
Enough for Byron to have called me 'blue'
Had I been female - though it seems perverse
To say it. But Stay! I make too much ado
Of this. My stanza's simply meant to introduce
Another Ganymede to Byron's Zeus.

Bravo Max! I defy anyone to beat
That introduction in our hero's style,
Wondrous in meter, perfect on its feet
Which dance across the page and make one smile.
Unlike the poet, loath to leave his seat;
Expecially when tangled for the while
In rhyme. A 'newby' in his imitation
Gives us a hint of secret profligation...

Glad you like it Debora!

Not really anything to do with ottava rima, but my talk about Byron's great friend Shelley is available to view on Youtube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EFKQ-f3K ... er&list=UL
It was given at this year's Lowdham Book Festival. Last year I gave the talk: Lord Byron the first Rockstar?

Enjoy!
