Is there any record about Byron´s interest in south america independence? I read in a biography on Byron a very short commentary on this subject but not much.

Did he not have a fantasy about getting away from it all and owning a ranch in Argentina? No doubt he was interested in hearing of the struggle for independence in South America, but whether like Garibaldi, he would have actively participated is not clear. He probably liked the notion of solitude on the pampas.

Can you tell us how Byron is viewed in your country? Is there an interest in his poetry? do you have any statues, or streets in his name?

regards,
Elizabeth

While I was studying in a Catholic Institute I read about Lord Byron among the poets belonging to the romantic period. From that moment my interest grew and since then I cherish two biographies, "Lord Byron" by Jorge Brandes (brief and incomplete) and the most complete that one by André Mouris, Don Juan, some articles from newspapers and magazines and a portrait.
Last year, a famous newspaper Pagina 12 (page 12) published " SOFT BYRON " where one of the Byrons took pride in possesing the Islas Malvinas (falklands) (maybe while sailing to Chile or la Patagonia).
It mentions that soon after Byron gave up her daughter Ada Augusta Byron she was brought up by a pathetic mother who didn´t allow her child to read any poetry.
Poor Ada went through Maths instead and it mentions that she married satanic Babbage. It seems that they both are regarded now as being SOFTWARE PROGRAMMERS pioneers rigth before the PC came out.
In Buenos Aires there is a library named Lord Byron where you find oldies and hard to find books.
As far as I know there is no street labelled Lord Byron.
The only English street I know is William Brown, a merchant seaman, the Admiral William Brown of Foxford, father of our argentine navy.
Worth to mention are Thomas Cochrane (Scottish) William Miller, John O´Brien (Irish) and Diego Paroissien ( Londoner). These outstanding men of our early history joined the Argentine army and fought Independence with our General JOSE DE SAN MARTIN.
I s there any poetry dedicated to Ada Byron?
obviously written by her father.

I think that theres some clothing for men and underwear by Avon that uses the name Byron.
